4th grade reading comprehension builds upon the foundational skills developed in earlier grades. By 4th grade students are expected to understand more complex texts, think critically, and analyze information at a deeper level.
4th graders are expected to understand and analyze more complex texts, including longer passages with more detailed plots.
In addition, they are encouraged to think critically about what they read, identify biases, and form their own opinions. At this point, the students should be able to understand the use of metaphors, similes, and personification.
Finally, they need to understand different text structures, like cause and effect, compare and contrast, and problem and solution, to better comprehend the information presented.
