Adverbs are special words that tell us more about how, when, or where something happens. They can describe how someone does something (quickly, slowly), when something happens (now, later), or where it happens (here, everywhere). Learning about adverbs helps you make your sentences more interesting!
An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Adverbs describe how, when, where, why, or to what extent an action is performed or a quality exists. While many adverbs end in “-ly” (e.g., quickly, softly), others do not (e.g., fast, well, yesterday).
Adverbs also help us create a more vivid and engaging narrative. They paint a picture for the reader allowing them to visualize the scene and understand the characters’ emotions. For instance, saying “He sighed heavily” is far more impactful than “He sighed.”
